Haha I live in Crossville... Honestly it's not bad here and I've never been stolen from, except for one time I had my package stolen on ebay, and it was stolen from someone in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.. It's very safe in the part of Cumberland County I live in, I never even lock my car doors at night... But yes, people steal here occasionally when you go into town, the actually 'city' part where few people actually live.. I do lock my door when I run into walmart, and as long as you lock your car in town, it's very rare to be robbed here.. There aren't people 'out to get you' around every corner when you walk down the street.
It's quite unfair to label Crossville as a crime-ridden area because many people from surrounding rural counties and communities go into Crossville to shop and unfairly inflate the crime rate... And boy, do a LOT of people move here for it to be 'such a bad place to live'... Real estate is very cheap here and there's beautiful scenery, along with the smokies not being far away.. I bought my first house already and I'm only 23 years old..
I was born in Crossville TN in 1977 my family was on vacation visiting family!!
All of my family lives in fentress county,,clarkrange, grimsley, All of my dad's family lives here. I lived in clarkrange, when I was little I my dad worked out of town and was only home on weekends.. I moved to Sarasota FL but went back to clarkrange in 2006 to bury my father..
I will say not much has changed. Theres no jobs,Low rent, and no Walmart or alcohol. I was in a Dry county.
I really really think that Fentress town, clarkrange, grimsley, Jamestown should be on your worst places to live..It's so bad you have to drive to Crossville TN just to shop because there's no grocery stores,or restaurants unless you want a local run restaurant, the only thing to is to go hang out at one local pool hall !! With the locals !!
Or go to clarkrange high school basketball game !!! I moved back to clarkrange when I was 16 for two months I had to move back to Sarasota Florida because I about pulled my hair out..There was nothing to do!! Go to the local beauty shop and get your hair done or the tanning bed!!! I can't do it bro...!!!!
Crossville oh sweet Crossville there's than five murders across my home we i used to live one a lady set her has been on fire like poured gasoline on him and through her cigarette on him because of some fight next are used to be a bar across the street that are used to live on and these people got hurt overdosed on drugs and put the girl and set her on fire and buried her under my house well my old house and there's been three murders on the property next to me with yesterday my grandpa's home but luckily I.
Don't live there anymore I live in South Carolina only 100 Yards across
The only reason Crossville is growing at all is because of all the old people flocking here for the golf courses to escape the high prices of Florida. Besides that and the fact that they bring the high prices with them, the city itself is broke, trashy, and depressing. It's kind of hard to get ahead when you pay 700 a month for a 1 bedroom gutter shack and nobody out here pays a realistic wage. I would move back to Murfreesboro or east Nashville, but I don't draw a good retirement pension, I don't sell M**h to the trashy locals, and I simply can't make enough to live let alone leave.
The abnormally high prices for a podunk TN town stands out the most as for the m**h heads. Random people will walk up out of the blue and ask for rides. You'll also notice an abundance of old people who shouldn't be allowed to drive but do anyways. It's a giant nursing home/landfill.
I truly think that your study doesn't take everything into account about Crossville. For decades, it's been in the top 10 places to retire in the United States. I was born and raised there, and crime was not much more substantial than the occasional lawn mower being stolen or a little vandalism from time to time. Granted, times do change... But I truly think that if the gaps along Main Street were filled with shops and an effort was made to revitalize South Main Street, it'd still be a nice place to live. I think that people should have decent jobs to afford the cost of living and I do fault the Chamber of Commerce for THAT... But it could regain its mountain plateau charm and be a wonderful place to live.
Cumberland Mountain State Park is a great place to have a picnic or walking or fishing or swimming. There's also been some effort to promote cruising downtown on Friday and Saturday nights as well. Plateau Lanes has a very nice bowling alley and I enjoyed it for years. Lots of camping and hiking to enjoy as well.
